Ok but now that I’ve brought up Vimihr I wanna talk about them

Their deal honestly is Very inspired by Bartimaeus trilogy, tho with my own spin on demon origins and whatever. I forget exactly how old I made them but they’ve only been summoned for the last 50 years or so. So like, a Baby in demon terms.

They had a few bad summoners that taught them a healthy dislike for most summoners. Then ended up having one that ended up dying prematurely, setting Vimihr free since the dude didn’t have any sort of backup plan in case that happened.

In this world demons aren’t inherently uncomfortable in the material world, since That component is different (it’s not the Other Place with spirits like in Bartimaeus trilogy, it’s closer to Dnd demon realms and all). So like. Vimihr’s perfectly fine living in the world, so long as they do occasionally eat their demon food (basically, life essence).

So they decide they wanna try to live in the world, finds some guy and basically steals his identity Bc how else are they supposed to live amongst humans? Also they can shapeshift, of course. They end up found out by the guy’s girlfriend who was not convinced by Vimihr’s act (Vimihr, the inexperienced demon who does not inherently understand human nature, is Not a good actor). So they have to abandon that form.

They don’t wanna KILL anyone tho so they wander around until they find another opportunity (aka, a recently dead person whose identity they can steal). End up finding a girl getting murdered in an alleyway, get Pissed at the dude who did it (Bc they think human lives are beautiful and should not be extinguished prematurely), kills him and eats him, then goes and is like “sorry girl, I can’t heal you, but hey, if you got any loved ones you don’t wanna abandon, don’t worry! I can make sure they don’t live without you :)”

And another vibe with this is if they eat someone recently dead (or still alive, even) they can like. Collect their memories from their essences, essentially. So Vimihr, by all rights, knows everything the girl knows and thus should be perfect at imitating her. But they are Not Very Smart. The girl’s an engineer and they’re like “fuck I can’t do that, gotta find a new job”. Also they are, again, Bad At Acting. There’s only so much avoiding friends and family you can do before they get suspicious.

And that’s basically where I’m at with their whole concept. It would probably be very fun to do more with them, sometime.
